4Fukushima First Wall Defense is exactly the kind of iPhone game that casual gamers can enjoy. This easy to play yet engaging strategy game has gorgeous graphics, a simple concept and exciting music and sounds. Read on to find out if this is the right game for you...

Concept

In this game you control the security system of a nuclear reactor, presumably on some alien planet. Alien ships approach your reactor and attempt to crash into it. Using 4 nodes at the corners of your reactor’s base, you can activate or turn off sections of the square shield that will stop enemy invaders.

Why not just turn all the shields on? Well, you have limited power for each level. If you leave the shields on the entire duration of the attack wave, you’ll run out of power before all the enemies have attacked. This is where the strategy of this iPhone game comes into play. Some enemies meander slowly toward your base. You’ll want to wait until they actually make their attack on the base before powering up the shields to stop them.

Like most good iPhone games, the first level is easy enough and introduces you to the mechanics. However, after a few levels, the attacks get faster and the shield switching reaches a frenetic pace. This is where the game really gets exciting!

Graphics and sound

This iPhone game has gorgeous graphics. The menus have an apocalyptic industrial feel with warm colors that I just love. Everything looks crisp in HD and the shields have wonderful particle lighting effects that really add to the game. Explosions are also quite satisfying and on par with the best iPhone games.

Control

Controls are simple and responsive. You’ll understand how to play within a minute of the first round. When the game gets going, you’ll find yourself overwhelmed, but the controls are responsive enough for you to stay on top of things.

Overall

4Fukushima is an excellent game to play on your iPhone. However, I have to call out Wandarin Interactive on a major oversight which I often see on iPhone games. The game plays fine on the iPhone but it crashes regularly on the iPod Touch. In a game that otherwise oozes polish, this oversight shows a lack of attention to detail and thorough testing.

Even with all my other apps closed and a fresh reboot, I could only play one or two levels before experiencing a crash. iPod Touch devices account for 41 percent of all iOS devices on the market. Not testing your game on this platform is a big mistake. However, for those with an iPhone, you have a crisp, exciting and engaging game that will keep you occupied.

Plopp - A Relaxing iPhone Puzzle Game That Doesn't Disappoint. Games2Be’s new casual puzzle game, Plopp, is lots of fun. This is not the most complicated game you’ll ever play but it really isn’t meant to be. This iPhone game features gorgeous visuals and an awesome soundtrack that really gets stuck in your head.

Concept

Plopp seems like a very simple iPhone game on the surface. Small spheres appear and begin to expand. A number within them tells you how many points they are worth. The bigger the sphere expands, the more points they’re worth. You must pop spheres before they touch each other. Whenever you pop one, it sends out a shockwave which can pop other spheres caught in its path.

Like most well-designed iPhone games, this one gives you time to get used to the concept before complicating it with something new. At the start, you might think you’ve purchased an overly simple game that you can’t lose. The game begins with simple, slowly expanding spheres that are easy to hit and don’t collide.

However, after playing for a few minutes, things get more complicated! Some spheres have a negative value. Others can only be popped by a shockwave from a nearby sphere. Pretty soon, you’ll have to think fast in order to get rid of pesky negative-point spheres and maximize your score.

Graphics and Sound

Plopp is all about graphics. It doesn’t try to hide this fact either. This is the games biggest appeal. It looks sharp and rewards you with sparkly visuals whenever you create a particularly impressive chain reaction. Beating levels unlocks more backgrounds and fancier explosion effects.

The “plop” sound you hear in the game is appropriate for its name. All the sound effects are pretty basic stuff here. No massive surprises or innovations, but nothing annoying either. The soundtrack is excellent. You get three electronic tracks that range from chill grooves to thumping House music. I found track two’s Daft Punk-styled House beats to be extremely catchy!

Controls

Not much can be said for the controls of this title. As far as iPhone Games go, this one doesn’t do anything amazing or different. The controls get the job done. It might have been cool to have a sliding element that adds additional functionality.

Overall

This simple little iPhone game is great for a casual game to play while riding the train or just killing a few minutes while waiting. While the game could have benefited from a bit more complexity, it’s still lots of fun and has an awesome soundtrack that alone makes it worth buying.

It’s more of a satirical lampooning of these well-known titles. The artwork for Battle Duty Modern Field 3 is a combination of art styles from these other games with a bunch of rage comic humor thrown on top. Are you wondering what a rage comic is? Those who haven’t seen rage comics won’t understand half the humor in this game. These comics are based on stock graphics originated on 4chan and later spread to other sites like Memebase.
Concept

The game play itself is very simple. Although the still shots in the app store might convince you that the game has amazing 3D graphics akin to the titles its mocking, the reality is much different. Levels don’t move or scroll in any way.

Each level is a still scene where various baddies pop-up from behind barrels or doorways. You tap on them to shoot them. You can switch weapons, use med packs to heal yourself and use other power-ups. That’s pretty much all there is to it. It’s not a terrible game. However, it also isn’t one you’ll play for hours.

Graphics and Sound

The graphics faithfully emulate the feel of those you’d find in the big name console titles being mocked. Scenes are well drawn and detailed. The bad guys tend to look rather blurry and small except for the occasional rage comic head that pops up on top of some baddies.
Animation seems to be haphazard. Some items cause cool animations, other things just disappear without any effect. A little more polish would have been helpful. The music vacillates between heavy rock music and 8-bit blips and beeps. Overall the sound was quite enjoyable.

Controls

I can barely say anything about the controls for Battle Duty Modern Field 3. You just tap on bad guys to kill them. No aiming, no sliding, no real mechanic besides this. You can click to change weapons and reload. Overall, it’s very repetitive. The rage comic humor is the only thing that keeps it interesting.

Overall

This game wasn’t meant to be an immersive and fulfilling iPhone game. It’s meant to have some fun with rage comics and mock popular twitch shooters. It pulls this off quite well. Since it is better than some free iPhone games, I suggest you check it out today!

Pros and Cons

I like the simplicity of this game. It’s not overly complex or confusing. You can learn to play in about two minutes and get right to it. You can almost play the game one-handed if you want to. The games simplicity, however, is also its downfall. I would have liked to see more gameplay mechanics introduced further into the game instead of just more of the same.

Overall Impression

Overall, this is a fun little diversion for your phone or iPod touch. Madcoaster is fast-paced and exciting, if not revolutionary or groundbreaking. Check it out today and let the good times roll!

Controls

I find the controls to be the game’s biggest downside. Like many iPhone games, the controls don’t work as good as they should. I especially didn’t like that I had to keep tapping to fire my guns. I supposed it makes sense not to be firing constantly, but I find that the button mashing really distracted me from steering and often caused me to crash.

Levels

The game starts with a large set of scenarios open that you can start playing right away. Although there are lots of upgrades to buy and items to purchase, you really can just jump right in and start playing by clicking on any level. Some levels are simple races while others feature battles with boss characters including cameos from Duke Nukem and several popular iPhone game characters.

Addictiveness

This is not the most addicting title on the iPhone. This is a full blown game, not a casual gamer experience. Those who like the immediacy of Angry Birds or similar titles might feel overwhelmed by this full-features PC game styled experience. The multiplayer is a fun diversion but unless you buy all the IAP upgrades you’ll mostly get smoked by your opponents.

Overall

This is a great game for those who like blowing things up and driving fast. I have to say that the IAP popups in this game feel a bit too intrusive. Although its not the most perfect game on the iPhone platform, it’s a lot of fun to play and offers an immersive experience. Check it out today!

Why is it that the things that we hate in real life we love to experience in the gaming world? Traffic Rush is one of the fun addictive simple games for the iPhone. The aim of Traffic Rush is to avoid a crash in a four lane freeway during peak hour. This game is an example of why some of the most simple games just work. It has great replay value and is one of the most addictive on the market. Gaming developers, take note. Whenever you played this, the more cars you get through the more that come through where it gets very difficult yet very addictive. For the controls of this game, you just have to use your finger. Just swipe the car and tap it to make it stop. I usually do the swiping way so that the car gets to the other side without crashing. Here is a video about Traffic Rush: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/traffic-rush/id322423174?mt=8 This is absolutely the game if you want to kill the time.
As like many gamers we were ecstatic once we heard Assassin’s Creed was making the jump from iPhone to iPad, spending our time imagining amazing visuals and mind blowing assassinations. Did it satisfy expectations? Read the following and judge for yourself. For those who you not familiar with Assassins Creed, here’s what you need to know: the player is Altair, a badass master assassin who’s is on quests for a powerful relic known as the Chalice. The game is renowned for its unique assassination techniques that make you feel like a mixture between James Bond and every character in Mission Impossible. In this iPad version, fighting Templar’s is Altair’s goal in that classic storyline- navigate through the 12th Century to protect the Chalice and avoid losing all sense of world order. Your aim is to collect the relatively easy to find blue stars which you can cash in to upgrade things like your weapons and health. Assassins Creed provides a good amount of moves to keep fighting interesting. For seasoned Assassin’s Creed players ask yourself this: do you want to spend $9.99 on a game that is no longer an “open world” scenario like the console version, but a side scrolling? It comes down to personal preference. Experienced players will also love the classic Assassin moves such as pick pocketing and “classic” assassinations.
In this iPad version, fighting Templar’s is Altair’s goal in that classic storyline- navigate through the 12th Century to protect the Chalice and avoid losing all sense of world order. If you’re over the assassination techniques of the old style game, avoid this game like the plague.

There is also a major let down: Assassin’s Creed for the iPad was converted from the iPhone version and as a result, the graphics are a little bit of a letdown. In some places the game looks stunning only to feel that the textures are stretched, and have not been properly converted for the iPad’s larger display in the next scene. Fighting scenes appear fluid, yet jumping appears awkward. However, the animations are smooth, and the actual gameplay is not severely affected by the bad texturing. Unfortunately, it’s the controls that let the game down. They are simply hard to use, even for a seasoned gamer- jumping is a death trap. Luckily, the soundtrack adds ambience with death tones thundering through the speakers.

Don’t buy this game if you’ve played it on PC or iPhone, but new players will probably get a thrill. Happy gaming!
