Whenever you played this, the more cars you get through the more that come through where it gets very difficult yet very addictive. For the controls of this game, you just have to use your finger. Just swipe the car and tap it to make it stop. I usually do the swiping way so that the car gets to the other side without crashing.

For those who you not familiar with Assassins Creed, here’s what you need to know: the player is Altair, a badass master assassin who’s is on quests for a powerful relic known as the Chalice. The game is renowned for its unique assassination techniques that make you feel like a mixture between James Bond and every character in Mission Impossible.

In this iPad version, fighting Templar’s is Altair’s goal in that classic storyline- navigate through the 12th Century to protect the Chalice and avoid losing all sense of world order. Your aim is to collect the relatively easy to find blue stars which you can cash in to upgrade things like your weapons and health. Assassins Creed provides a good amount of moves to keep fighting interesting.

For seasoned Assassin’s Creed players ask yourself this: do you want to spend $9.99 on a game that is no longer an “open world” scenario like the console version, but a side scrolling? It comes down to personal preference. Experienced players will also love the classic Assassin moves such as pick pocketing and “classic” assassinations. If you’re over the assassination techniques of the old style game, avoid this game like the plague.

There is also a major let down: Assassin’s Creed for the iPad was converted from the iPhone version and as a result, the graphics are a little bit of a letdown. In some places the game looks stunning only to feel that  the textures are stretched, and have not been properly converted for the iPad’s larger display in the next scene. Fighting scenes appear fluid, yet jumping appears awkward. However, the animations are smooth, and the actual gameplay is not severely affected by the bad texturing. Unfortunately, it’s the controls that let the game down. They are simply hard to use, even for a seasoned gamer- jumping is a death trap. Luckily, the soundtrack adds ambience with death tones thundering through the speakers.

The game is simply a form of aircraft fighting simulator, based entirely online. Evidently then, the multiplayer is one of the aspects it will try to focus on, and it has done this extremely well. The ability to play and fight online, versus either friends or complete strangers, certainly adds an interesting premise to the game, allowing for much further online expansion and ideas.

However another great part of this particular game is how it does not fall into the trap that so many other games and applications do – the tendency to focus entirely on one selling point, and forget other crucial aspects such as gameplay and graphics.

Fortunately, MetalStorm: Online has not forgotten to include the ingredients that make a truly great game as well. The graphics are most certainly there – supporting the newer retina HD graphics, the game is truly stunning to play on iPad, allowing even more immersion and realism.

The game itself is also incredibly fun to play. With a huge range of different aircraft to choose from and a wide variety of customisation options and levels, there is an awful lot to play here, especially from a free game. And obviously, the best aspect of any game such as this is the sheer addictiveness of it – you will never get bored so long as you have this game, as it has endless replayability and a lot of fun ways to pass the time, all for free.

Far too much of the time this is ignored, as seen by the fact that quite a large number of racing games feel extremely samey and boring, however GT Racing: Motor Academy truly excels at being different.

The main unique selling point of GT Racing: Motor Academy is the look and feel of it, especially on the iPad. With brilliantly shiny graphics, with a huge amount of detail in both the car designs and the scenery, GT Racing provides a great visual feast. With maps ranging from sunny cities to snowy mountain terrain, the game surely never lacks on things to look at and appreciate whilst racing.

And with the wide range of cars and the like on offer, the career mode itself allows you to truly spend hours playing it, attempting to level up as much as you can, seeing plenty of benefits as you do so, in the form of XP multipliers and bonus car features.

But what truly sells this game to me is the attention to detail within every aspect of the game. No part of the game has been glazed over, it is obvious that there has been a lot of work put into every part, allowing you to even see inside the cars, with no detail left out. The game itself parallels that of console racing, and on a platform such as the iPad it truly shines.

However one downside is the size of the application – to fit all the beauty in it clocks up over half a gigabyte of space, but it is well worth finding some extra space on your iPad or iPhone for this game.

Of those that are successful however, Texas Hold’em Poker is certainly one of the best. Why? Simply because it implements the entire social aspect so well. The app itself contains effectively two games in one – both Texas Hold’em poker and Omaha High – however focusing on the better known one.

To be honest, the game is what it says on the tin – it is an app in order to play poker, risk free, online with other players, and it does this incredibly well. However the graphics are also something to take note of as well.

Whereas a lot of poker games may simply focus on the poker playing involved, this app takes this into account, whilst also realising that any players will also want something to look at whilst they play, meaning they have used incredibly good graphics, especially for that of simply a poker game. Add to that the intuitive way in which you can invite current friends and even make new ones through just playing poker, and you have a truly great app.

Personally I think one of the great aspects of apps like this is the fact it is risk free, possibly even beneficial. It allows people to play poker, online, with other people, with no real financial risk, allowing you to carry on your love of poker and even get better at it, without having to spend a penny.

However it is likely that this is about to change. With the release of their newest game for iPhone, ‘SPY Mouse’ has the potential to be one of the greatest apps out there, on a platform that is only increasing in popularity and standing. Whilst it may be evident to question how well EA will do on a smaller scale such as this, all you should do is check out SPY Mouse, and you will see just how well EA have managed the transition.

The SPY Mouse itself is fairly simple – there is little plot aside from the basics: you control a mouse, and it is your task to collect as much cheese as you can whilst being as sneaky as possible. Whilst this premise is simple, it is often the more simple ones that become the most addictive games out there, and this is no exception.

The concept itself is really well played out – in a funny setting it works really well. There are also over 70 levels which make it a really fun and challenging game to play, making it last a fairly long time as well. The puzzle aspect is intriguing, making it fun to play over and over until you can master the puzzles. The boss fights at the end of certain sections make it even better, only increasing the challenge aspect.

Overall you have to realise that the game itself is not claiming to be amazingly huge, but for the time it does last it is certainly worth the cost, especially with the potential for future updates with more levels.
