Death Rally for iPhone is set in an unspecified post-apocalyptic world which reminds me a lot of Mad Max. You take on the role as a street-smart rogue who is in trouble with the law. To pay your debt to society, the sheriff has entered you in the chaotic Death Rally, a race where cars are outfitted with guns, missiles and armor and the winner is often the only car to cross the finish line.
Graphics
Death Rally for iPhone features gorgeous hand-drawn cut scenes with a slick comic book feel and excellent in-game graphics. The intro feels like you’re watching the opening scenes to Terminator or another futuristic thriller. The overhead in-game graphics are extremely realistic with excellent lighting and textures. Death Rally for iPhone is graphically one of the most polished iPhone games you’ll see on the market.
Controls
I find the controls to be the game’s biggest downside. Like many iPhone games, the controls don’t work as good as they should. I especially didn’t like that I had to keep tapping to fire my guns. I supposed it makes sense not to be firing constantly, but I find that the button mashing really distracted me from steering and often caused me to crash.
Levels
The game starts with a large set of scenarios open that you can start playing right away. Although there are lots of upgrades to buy and items to purchase, you really can just jump right in and start playing by clicking on any level. Some levels are simple races while others feature battles with boss characters including cameos from Duke Nukem and several popular iPhone game characters.
Addictiveness
This is not the most addicting title on the iPhone. This is a full blown game, not a casual gamer experience. Those who like the immediacy of Angry Birds or similar titles might feel overwhelmed by this full-features PC game styled experience. The multiplayer is a fun diversion but unless you buy all the IAP upgrades you’ll mostly get smoked by your opponents.
Overall
This is a great game for those who like blowing things up and driving fast. I have to say that the IAP popups in this game feel a bit too intrusive. Although its not the most perfect game on the iPhone platform, it’s a lot of fun to play and offers an immersive experience. Check it out today!
